More About Oprah's Philanthropy
Referred to collectively as O Philanthropy, three philanthropic initiatives encapsulate the gracious work of Oprah Winfrey. Each is a different 501(c)(3) organization. Despite being separate entities, all three foundations have a similar focus—giving grants and funding projects that inspire and that help build stronger people through better opportunities.
Here's an explanation of the different organizations and examples of their work.
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation
This organization built and is now operating the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls - South Africa.
Opened in January 2007, the free, residential school will eventually be home to apporiximately 450 academically talented girls in grades 7 through 12. Learners come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds and it's Oprah's dream to see the Academy develop the future women leaders of South Africa.
